The massive adoption of APIs to drive business operations and increase customer access is fundamentally changing the way the world works; it’s the API Economy, and it’s emerging as a major global force for businesses, governments and non-profits. I get it, and I’m encouraging it, but that’s because I sit in the middle of it all day. A few years ago it usually took a few conversations with a CTO before they even grasped the gist of what an API could do for their business. Now, everyone appears to be aware of the possibilities and the promise, but it’s still clear that is confusion in some quarters about what APIs are and how they fit into a business strategy.
SOA Software is, in many ways, a knowledge company – there’s a free exchange of ideas here at our Los Angeles HQ, and with our colleagues, customers and partners around the world. Our conversations are animated as we talk about opportunities and what COULD be done. That’s what keeps us innovative. And one of the things we keep communicating to partners, customers, prospects and general population of IT trend watchers what APIs are and what they can do for them.
Part of being a knowledge company is helping our stakeholders learn from us. We’ve created a broad repository of whitepapers, webinars, videos and a host of other material in our Resource Center. The idea is to help you develop a solid foundation on which you can build an understanding of enterprise API management and how it relates to your business. We recognize that in many cases, people “get” what APIs do, but until they come to understand all the essential elements like security, provisioning, different platform options, and the overall lifecycle of their API, they’re only sitting with limited information. The goal of the Resource Center is to help you get smarter about APIs and what they can do for you.
You may note that we already have a vibrant community for API developers (our API Management platform). Our targets here are those members of your team who create, implement, share and manage your APIs. This is for the technical guys and gals. Our Resource Center will likely benefit the business side of the house, and this is our intention. APIs are no longer just the domain of coders. As we’ve explained, one of the most important elements of an API is how it’s used to promote business and expand an organization’s reach.
